This simple compass lets you check for the problem at the bench before you start any other diagnosis, and is a handy addition to any watchmaker's or hobbyist's toolbox. If magnetism is found, a demagnetiser tool is used afterwards to clear it.
- Set up: Place the compass on a flat, still surface away from other magnets, speakers or metal tools.
- Let it settle: Wait for the needle to come to rest pointing north.
