This tool removes screw-on watch case backs using grip pressure alone, avoiding the scratches and slip risk that come with metal case knives or blades. It's a favourite first-choice tool for both hobbyists and working watchmakers because it's fast, simple, and non-marking on most standard screw-back watches.

• Position: Place the friction opener centrally over the case back.
• Press: Push down firmly to engage grip against the case back surface.
• Twist: Turn to unscrew the back in the loosening direction.
• Lift off: Once loosened, lift the case back away from the case.
• If it won't budge: Very tight or seized backs may need a traditional bladed opener instead.
