🔧 What it does & how to use
The cannon pinion carries the minute hand and sits friction-fit on the centre wheel — this tool grips and lifts it cleanly off without bending the pivot or marking the plate, which is essential when servicing, replacing hands, or fitting a new pinion. It suits both hobbyist repairers and professional watchmakers working on vintage mechanical watches.
- Position the movement: Support the movement securely, dial side up or as required, so the centre wheel and cannon pinion are accessible.
- Locate the tool: Bring the two arms of the push-together tool either side of the cannon pinion, centred over the centre wheel pivot.
- Apply even pressure: Push the arms together steadily and evenly to grip the cannon pinion.
- Lift off: Continue the squeezing action to draw the cannon pinion straight up off the centre wheel, avoiding any sideways force.
- Refitting: When replacing, press the new or same cannon pinion back onto the centre wheel pivot with firm, even hand pressure until fully seated.
