🔧 What it does & how to use

A solid steel bench block anvil is a core bench tool for jewellers, silversmiths and metal-craft hobbyists, giving a hard, flat, stable steel surface to work metal against. Its weight and rigidity make it ideal for doming and dapping punches, chasing designs into sheet metal, planishing, riveting and general flattening or straightening of small metal pieces.

• Set up: place the block on a solid, stable bench surface, ideally on a leather or rubber pad to reduce noise and bounce.
• Doming/dapping: rest a dapping punch and die (or the metal disc) on the block and strike the punch with a hammer to form domed shapes.
• Chasing: lay sheet metal on the block and use chasing tools and a hammer to push in decorative or textured lines.
• Flattening/straightening: place a bent or warped piece on the block and tap gently with a flat-faced hammer to true it up.
• Care: keep the steel surface clean and dry between uses to avoid marking work with rust or debris.
