🔧 What it does & how to use
Each spider key holds five differently sized winding bits on rotating arms, so one key can wind several arbor sizes without needing a separate key for each. Together, the three keys in this set cover sizes 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 (rose gold key), 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 (black key), and 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 (antique-effect key) — useful for hobbyists and clock repairers dealing with a mix of old clocks.
- Identify the arbor: Look at the square winding hole on the clock face or movement to judge the size needed.
- Select the bit: Rotate the spider key (or try each of the three keys) until you find the bit that slides onto the arbor with a snug, square fit.
- Fit the key: Push the chosen bit fully onto the arbor so it seats squarely and isn't at an angle.
- Wind gently: Turn the key smoothly in the winding direction until you feel the mainspring tension build, then stop — never force it once resistance increases sharply.
