This is an emery sharpening stone mounted in a wooden base, used for re-forming and honing the flat tip of a screwdriver blade so it bites cleanly into a screw slot instead of slipping and chewing up the screw head or surrounding case work — essential for anyone servicing watches, clocks or fine mechanisms where a worn or rounded screwdriver tip can easily damage soft brass screws.
To use it, rest the screwdriver tip flat on the stone at a shallow, consistent angle and roll it steadily across the abrasive surface, working both faces of the tip evenly so the edge stays square and centred. We also sell a separate screwdriver holder (sold individually) that holds the blade at the correct angle and lets you roll it smoothly over the stone, which makes it much easier to get a consistent, even edge — worth adding if you want repeatable results without relying on a steady hand alone.
