🔧 What it does & how to use
A stepped round mandrel is a bench tool for shaping and sizing round bangles and bracelets, useful to both hobbyist jewellers and professional repairers. The stepped body gives a range of graduated diameters along its length, and the tang lets it be gripped securely for hammering or forming work.
- Secure the mandrel: clamp the tang firmly in a bench vice.
- Choose the diameter: slide your workpiece along the stepped body to the size you need, between 48mm and 66mm.
- Form the metal: hammer, bend or planish the bangle or bracelet blank around the mandrel at the chosen step.
- Check and adjust: move up or down the taper to fine-tune the diameter until the piece is the required size.
