🔧 What it does & how to use
A dapping (doming) block is a bench essential for jewellers, silversmiths and metal-craft hobbyists who need to shape flat metal discs into domed hemispheres, or bend and form strips of sheet metal. This block gives you two tools in one: flip it over to switch between the holed doming face and the grooved bending face. The rubber base grips the bench and cushions hammer blows, keeping the block steady and reducing noise and vibration.
- Choose your hole or groove: pick a size (from 3mm up to 20mm) that suits the metal blank or strip you're working with.
- Position the metal: lay your disc or strip over the chosen hole or groove.
- Shape it: use a dapping punch (for doming) or a forming punch/hammer (for bending grooves) to work the metal down into the recess.
- Work up or down in size: move the piece through progressively larger or smaller holes to deepen the dome gradually without splitting the metal.
- Flip for the other job: turn the block over to switch between doming holes and bending grooves as your project needs.
