🔧 What it does & how to use
A dapping (doming) block is used to shape flat metal discs or sheet into domed, hemispherical forms — essential for making cabochon settings, buttons, beads, spoon bowls and other rounded jewellery components. This double-sided block gives a wide range of half-round cavity sizes on each face, so you can dome pieces from small to large without needing multiple blocks. Suitable for hobbyist jewellery makers as well as professional workshops.
- Choose a cavity: select a round depression close to the finished dome size you want, slightly larger than the metal disc.
- Place the metal: lay the flat disc or sheet into the chosen cavity.
- Select a matching punch: pick a dapping punch (sold separately) that fits the same cavity.
- Strike gently: tap the punch with a hammer, working evenly around the disc to gradually form the dome.
- Step down cavities: for deeper domes, move the piece through progressively smaller cavities, re-annealing the metal as needed.
- Finish: remove the formed dome and clean up edges as required.
