🔧 What it does & how to use
A micrometer gauge gives a far more precise reading than a standard ruler or vernier caliper, making it useful for checking the thickness of watch crystals, case backs, movement parts, wire, sheet metal and small jewellery components up to 15mm. It suits both hobbyists and working repairers who need accurate, repeatable measurements.
- Open the jaws: Turn the thimble to wind the spindle back until there's enough gap to fit the item being measured.
- Position the part: Place the component squarely between the anvil and spindle face.
- Close gently: Turn the thimble until the spindle just meets the part - avoid over-tightening, which can give a false reading.
- Take the reading: Read the main scale on the sleeve, then add the thimble scale reading for the precise measurement.
- Zero check: Before use, close the jaws fully with nothing between them to confirm the scale reads zero, adjusting if needed for accuracy.
