The 4 movable pins close in evenly from all sides, so they centre and grip the case or movement without needing to be perfectly aligned by eye.

Set the size: slide the 4 pins outward to open the holder wider than the case or movement.

Position the item: place the case or movement centrally between the pins.

Close the pins: bring the pins inward evenly until they contact the case or movement snugly.

Check the grip: confirm the item is held firm and centred before starting work.

Work freely: with the piece clamped, use both hands for fitting, adjusting, or servicing.
