Curator Slate Blacking 120ml Victorian Black Slate Marble Mantel Clock Restorer
Curator Slate Blacking 120ml — Professional Restorer for Victorian Black Slate & Marble Clock Cases
Restore the rich, deep ebony-black finish to your antique slate or black marble clock case with Curator Slate Blacking — the trade-standard product trusted by professional horologists, clock restorers and antique dealers throughout the UK. Manufactured in Bury, Lancashire by Horological Solvents Ltd, the recognised name in specialist horological consumables.
Victorian and Edwardian black slate mantel clocks (c.1860–1910), Belgian slate cases and black marble architectural-style clocks naturally fade to a dull grey over time through sunlight, dust, wax build-up and old polish residue. A single bottle of Curator Slate Blacking returns the case to its original showroom-fresh, glossy black appearance — without damaging gilt incised decoration, coloured marble inlay, brass mounts, bezels or dial surrounds.
Key Features
- Authentic deep-black finish — restores faded, sun-bleached, scuffed or grey slate to a museum-quality ebony lustre
- Buffs to a high shine — soft duster brings out a brilliant gloss reminiscent of polished onyx
- Safe on inlay — wipes off coloured marble inlay, brass and gilt with a damp cloth before drying
- Industry standard — the same product used in professional clock restoration workshops
- Easy two-coat application — usable in under an hour with no specialist tools
- Generous 120ml bottle — sufficient to restore multiple clock cases
- Made in England — formulated and bottled in Bury, Lancashire by Horological Solvents Ltd

Directions For Use (as printed on the bottle)
Preparation: Clean the case thoroughly with White Spirit to remove all dirt, grease and old wax. Dry with a soft clean cloth while still wet, then leave for 2–3 hours before applying. For badly marked cases, use 0000-grade wire wool with the white spirit.
Application: Shake the bottle well. Apply Slate Blacking evenly with a clean lint-free cloth — do not rub in. Any small bubbles will self-level. Two coats are usual; very grey or white areas may require a third. Wipe any blacking off inlay or brass with a damp cloth before it dries. Once fully dry, buff to a high shine with a soft duster. For long-term protection, finish with a light coat of Beeswax Polish.
