🔧 What it does & how to use
A corrugating mill uses a pair of patterned steel rollers to texture flat metal sheet with regular ridges, adding strength, decorative texture and rigidity to thin material. It's a popular bench tool for jewellers, silversmiths and metal crafters who want to add corrugated texture to sheet before forming it into rings, cuffs, pendants or other pieces. The mill comes fitted to its own base for stable use on a workbench.
- Mount the base: Clamp or bolt the mill's base securely to a sturdy workbench or vice.
- Prepare the sheet: Anneal and clean your metal sheet so it's soft enough to corrugate without cracking.
- Feed the metal: Insert the leading edge of the sheet between the corrugating rollers, keeping it square to the rollers.
- Turn the handle: Wind the handle steadily and evenly to draw the sheet through, forming the corrugated ridges.
- Check the pass: Inspect the corrugation depth; run the sheet through again or re-anneal if you need deeper ridges.
- Finish and shape: Once corrugated, trim, form or set the textured sheet into your finished piece.
