🔧 What it does & how to use
This jig kit is used by jewellers and jewellery-making hobbyists to hold lengths of wire in place while assembling and soldering, so the wires form a neat claw setting for holding a stone or gem. The grooved holders and sleeves let you choose how many prongs the finished claw has — 4, 5, 6 or 8 — depending on the holder and sleeve combination used.
- Cut wire: cut your gold or silver wire to the length needed for the claw.
- Choose holder: pick the grooved holder that matches the number of prongs you want.
- Position wires: lay the cut wires into the grooves of the chosen holder.
- Form the cone: place the holder into the jig base so the wires splay out into a cone shape.
- Fit the sleeve: slide the matching sleeve over the wires to hold them firmly in position.
- Solder: solder the wires together while held in the jig to form the finished claw.
