🔧 What it does & how to use
A tap and die set lets you cut or repair fine internal and external threads on small components — winding stems, screws, arbors and similar parts — rather than scrapping a part with damaged threads. It's a bench essential for watchmakers, clockmakers, jewellers and model engineers working at this small scale, and suits both hobbyists and trade repairers.
- Identify the size: use the marked screw plate to find the hole matching the thread diameter you need (0.7mm–2.0mm).
- External threads: select the matching die from the screw plate and turn it onto the rod or stem to cut a new external thread.
- Internal threads: select the matching tap and turn it into a pre-drilled hole to cut an internal thread.
- Work slowly: turn a little at a time, backing off periodically to clear swarf and avoid snapping a tap in such fine sizes.
- Store safely: return each tap to its marked slot in the wooden stand to keep the set organised and the fine threads protected.
