This is a fine-grade combination polishing stone used by watchmakers, clockmakers and jewellers to sharpen and hone dull tools, giving cutting edges a keen, polished finish. It's particularly suited to shaping and sharpening the edges of gravers, but can be used on other small hand tools too.

To use, draw the tool's edge across the stone's flat face in smooth, even strokes, keeping a consistent angle to maintain the bevel. The stone can be used dry or with a few drops of oil — oil helps float away swarf and keeps the surface clean, giving a smoother finish, though it works perfectly well without it for quick touch-ups. Its fine grade makes it ideal as a finishing stone after coarser sharpening, restoring a fine, keen edge ready for precision work.
