🔧 What it does & how to use

A scratch brush is a bench essential for watchmakers, clockmakers and jewellers, used to clean grime and rust from mechanisms and to remove light scratches from matt stainless steel finishes such as watch case backs. These fibre glass inserts are the wearing part of the tool — once the fibres fray or shorten with use, simply replace the insert rather than buying a whole new brush.

• Fit the insert: slide a fibre glass refill into the scratch brush handle where the old, worn insert has been removed.
• Work the surface: stroke the brush in one direction over the matt finish, mechanism or workings to lift dirt, rust or light scratching.
• Check progress: inspect the finish regularly and stop once the surface is clean, as fibre glass can be abrasive on some finishes.
• Replace as needed: swap in a new insert from the pack once the fibres wear down or become clogged.
