🔧 What it does & how to use

Oil pins are used by watchmakers and hobbyist repairers to apply lubricant precisely to the tiny jewels and pivots inside a watch movement, where too much oil can cause problems just as easily as too little.

Dip the fine metal pin into your chosen watch oil so that only a minute amount clings to the tip — you should barely see it. Bring the pin close to the jewel or pivot you want to lubricate; the jewel will draw the correct amount of oil from the pin by capillary attraction, leaving a controlled, even film rather than a flooded bearing.

Between uses, rest each pin in its own protective stand to keep the tip clean and undamaged and to stop it picking up dust or grit, which could otherwise be transferred into the movement.
