🔧 What it does & how to use

A dapping block is used alongside dapping punches to form flat metal discs into domed, hemispherical shapes — essential for making bezels, buttons, beads and curved jewellery components. The rubber body gives a softer, more forgiving surface than a steel block, which helps prevent denting or marking the metal while it's being shaped, and is well suited to hobbyists and jewellery makers working by hand.

• Select a depression: choose the recessed cavity on the block closest in size to the dome you want to form.
• Position the disc: lay your cut metal disc centrally over the chosen depression.
• Set the punch: place the matching dapping punch tip onto the metal, directly above the depression.
• Strike gradually: tap the punch firmly with a mallet, working the metal down into the depression in stages rather than one hard blow.
• Refine the shape: move to progressively deeper depressions and re-strike as needed until the dome is fully formed, rotating the disc for even shaping.
