🔧 What it does & how to use
A vernier gauge is used for taking precise measurements of small components — ideal for watch, clock and jewellery work where diameters, thicknesses and lengths need checking against inch or millimetre scales. Its compact brass build makes it handy for a tool roll or small parts box, and it suits both hobbyists and professionals needing quick, repeatable measurements at the bench.
- Open the jaws: slide the moving jaw outward to open the gauge wider than the part being measured.
- Position the part: place the item between the jaws, whether measuring an external dimension or fitting around the piece.
- Close the jaws: gently slide the jaw closed until it sits snugly against the part, without forcing it.
- Read the scale: take the measurement from either the inch or millimetre scale, whichever suits your work.
- Reset for the next measurement: open the jaws again and repeat as needed.
