🔧 What it does & how to use

This is a shaping tool for jewellers, silversmiths and hobbyist jewellery makers. The tapered hardwood body lets you form, stretch or true up round bangles and bracelets, and its solid construction makes it ideal for tapping out dents or minor distortions with a mallet. Because one end measures 37mm and the other 64mm, a single mandrel covers a wide range of bangle and bracelet sizes.

• Secure the mandrel: clamp it in a bench vice, or rest it in a mandrel stand, so it's held steady while you work.
• Choose your diameter: slide the bangle or bracelet onto the mandrel at the point where the taper matches the size you need.
• Shape or true up: use a mallet (rawhide or nylon-faced for a soft blow) to gently tap the metal round and remove dents or distortion.
• Work along the taper: move the piece up or down the mandrel to fine-tune the diameter as you shape.
• Check as you go: slide the piece off periodically to inspect roundness and repeat until you're happy with the shape.
