🔧 What it does & how to use
A swage block lets jewellers and metalworkers shape flat sheet metal into curved or channelled forms without a press. The graduated U-channels are used with matching swaging punches or dowels (not included) to dap or dome metal into consistent U-shaped or rounded profiles, while the 90-degree V-groove is used for forming straight angled bends and creases. It suits hobbyist jewellers, silversmiths and model-makers who need repeatable hand-formed curves or folds.
-
Select the channel: choose the U-channel size (8.25mm to 23mm) or the V-groove that matches the curve or bend you need.
-
Position the metal: lay the sheet metal strip or blank over the chosen channel, centred along its length.
-
Form the shape: place a punch, dowel or forming tool over the metal in the channel and strike with a mallet, working along the length to seat the metal into the groove.
-
Work up gradually: for deeper forms, move progressively to a narrower or deeper channel rather than forcing the shape in one pass.
-
Check and repeat: remove the piece, check the profile against your design, and repeat or move to another channel as needed.
