A jump ring maker lets you wind your own coils of wire and cut them into consistent jump rings, instead of buying rings pre-made. Fit the post size you need (4mm, 6mm, 7mm or 8mm) into the tool, then wrap your wire tightly and evenly around the post to form a continuous coil. Once wound, the coil is sliced along its length — typically with a jeweller's saw or dedicated coil-cutting jig — to produce a stack of individual jump rings, all sharing the same internal diameter set by the post used.
