🔧 What it does & how to use
This tool is used by jewellers and hobbyist jewellery-makers to close a bezel wall or set of claws neatly over a cabochon or faceted stone, holding it securely in its setting. The rolling head lets you apply steady, controlled pressure to the metal instead of pushing with a single burnisher point, which lowers the risk of the tool skidding off the metal and marking the stone or your fingers.
- Seat the stone: place the gem or cabochon into its bezel cup or claw setting so it sits level and centred.
- Start opposite points: use the roller to press the bezel wall (or a claw) down against the stone, then move to the point directly opposite and repeat.
- Work around evenly: continue rolling the metal down at points around the setting in a cross pattern, rather than working around in one direction, so the stone is pushed down evenly and doesn't tilt.
- Finish and check: once the metal is fully closed or the claws are flush against the stone, run the roller around again lightly to smooth the edge, then check the stone is tight with no movement.
