🔧 What it does & how to use
A depth collet stops your setting burr cutting any deeper than the depth you set it to, so every bearing seat in a piece comes out level and consistent. It's aimed at jewellers and hobbyist setters who cut seats for stone setting with a micromotor or pendant drill, and want repeatable results without eyeballing depth by hand.
-
Choose the collet: pick the depth collet sized for your job — the larger one for settings from 1/10ct to 1/2ct, the smaller one for small prong cluster settings.
-
Fit the burr: slide the shank of your setting burr through the depth collet until it sits at the depth you want the seat cut.
-
Lock it in place: tighten the collet onto the burr shank using the supplied Allen wrench.
-
Load your drill: insert the burr, with the depth collet still attached, into your micromotor or pendant drill.
-
Cut the seat: cut as normal — the collet stops the burr going any deeper, so every seat comes out even.
Use it for prong settings, gent's rings that need hammer settings, and baguette boxes, wherever you need matching bearing depths across multiple stones.
