🔧 What it does & how to use
A piercing saw is the standard hand tool for cutting fine, intricate shapes in metal — used constantly in jewellery making, watch and clock repair, and general metal craft. The adjustable frame lets you set the working depth to suit the job, and the tensioning screw keeps the blade taut and straight so it cuts cleanly instead of snapping or wandering.

Fit the blade: clamp it in the top and bottom wing nuts with the teeth facing outward and downward, towards the handle.

Set the frame depth: loosen the frame's adjustment screws and slide the arms to suit the blade length, then re-tighten.

Tension the blade: turn the thumbscrew until the blade is taut — it should give a clear, high-pitched ping when plucked.

Choose your grade: use a coarser blade (lower numbers such as 1 or 2) for thicker metal and faster cutting, and a finer blade (higher numbers such as 3/0 or 4/0) for delicate detail work and thin sheet.

Cut with light, steady strokes: hold the frame vertically and let the blade do the work on the downstroke — forcing it will snap the blade.
