🔧 What it does & how to use
Smoothing broaches are used to polish and lightly enlarge round holes in metal — for example jewel holes, pivot holes, and holes in clock and watch plates — without removing significant material. Unlike cutting broaches, these are designed to smooth and burnish the surface of an existing hole rather than shape or open it up. Insert the broach into the hole and rotate it by hand using the knurled handle, working through sizes gradually until the hole is smooth and the required part fits and turns freely. Useful for clockmakers, watchmakers and jewellers working on repairs or fine adjustments.
