🔧 What it does & how to use
A bench tool for clockmakers and keen hobbyists working on movements that need their plates opened up — for cleaning, pivot inspection, gear replacement or checking that a gear runs true. The support legs and grooved tooltips let you mount a gear on its pivots and spin it to check for straightness, while the thumb screw and slide design keeps the spreading pressure smooth and even so you don't risk bending or cracking the plates.

Position: Set the spreader across the movement plates at the point you need to open.

Spread gradually: Turn the thumb screw to slide the arms apart, applying steady, even pressure — never force it in one go.

Clamp and hold: Once the plates are open enough to work, tighten the wing bolts to hold the gap steady.

Check gears: Rest a gear's pivots in the grooved tooltips on the support legs and spin it by hand to spot any wobble or bent pivots.

Release evenly: Back off the thumb screw slowly to bring the plates back together without shock-loading them.
⚠️ Please check your movement's plate gap doesn't exceed the tool's 120mm maximum spread before ordering, as wider plates won't be accommodated.
