🔧 What it does & how to use
A mainspring winder is used by clock repairers to control the powerful mainspring safely when it needs to come out of, or go back into, a clock's barrel. Mainsprings store a great deal of tension, and releasing or fitting one by hand risks injury or damage to the spring itself.
The tool's clamp grips the coiled mainspring, holding it securely closed so it can be lifted out of the barrel or lowered back in under control. This lets the clockmaker clean, inspect, lubricate or replace the spring, then rewind and refit it without the spring suddenly uncoiling.
Suitable for hobbyist and professional clock repairers working on mainspring-driven clock movements as part of routine servicing or repair work.
