A dapping block (also called a doming block) is used with dapping punches and a mallet to form flat sheet metal into smooth, rounded domes — essential for jewellery makers producing beads, bezel cups, buttons and other curved components. The rubber base sits underneath to cushion the block and stop it slipping or marking the bench while you work. Suitable for hobbyists and professional jewellers alike.

• Select a cavity: Choose a depression in the block matching the size of dome you want to form.
• Position the metal: Place your prepared sheet metal disc over the chosen cavity.
• Choose a punch: Pick a dapping punch that fits snugly into the same cavity.
• Strike gradually: Tap the punch with a mallet, working the metal down into the depression in stages rather than one hard blow.
• Progress through sizes: Move to smaller cavities and punches as needed to deepen and smooth the dome shape.
• Finish: Remove the domed piece and clean up edges as required for your project.
