🔧 What it does & how to use

A dapping/doming block is a bench tool used by jewellers, silversmiths, and watch and clock case workers to shape flat metal sheet or discs into domes, curves and formed channels. The various sized cavities — some rounded, some flat-bottomed, some cut as V-grooves — let you form beads, cabochon bezels, dome-shaped findings, or curved case and dial components, depending on the shape and depth you need.

• Wipe down: Remove the protective oil coating from the block before first use.
• Choose a cavity: Pick the channel or hollow that matches the curve, size or groove you want to form.
• Position the metal: Lay your metal disc or sheet over the chosen cavity.
• Shape with a punch: Use a suitably sized doming punch (sold separately) and a mallet to strike and press the metal into the block's cavity.
• Work progressively: For deeper domes, move the piece through successively smaller cavities to shape it gradually without splitting the metal.
