🔧 What it does & how to use
A hard Arkansas oil stone is a natural fine-grit sharpening stone prized by watchmakers, clockmakers, jewellers and engineers for putting a keen, polished edge on small tools such as gravers, screwdrivers, scrapers and fine chisels. Its hardness gives a smooth, consistent finish without digging into delicate edges, making it ideal for precision bench work rather than heavy-duty blades.
-
Prepare the stone: apply a few drops of light honing oil to the stone's surface.
-
Position the tool: hold the blade or tip flat against the stone at a consistent, shallow angle.
-
Hone: draw the edge across the stone in smooth, even strokes, keeping the angle steady throughout.
-
Repeat: continue on both sides of the edge until a fine, sharp finish is achieved.
-
Clean up: wipe away excess oil and swarf, then store the stone in its wooden box to keep the surface flat and protected.
